Bodrum, Turkey. Sunshine, beaches, and… knock-off Rolexes? Yeah, that’s part of the charm, I guess. I mean, I’m not gonna lie, the idea of strolling through a market and scoring a “genuine fake” anything kinda tickles me. Like, what even IS that? An oxymoron on a stall!
From what I gather from the interwebs, Bodrum (and Kusadasi, apparently, if you’re thinking of a side trip) is a hotspot for these designer “inspired” goods. Handbags, clothes, the whole shebang. But we’re talking watches here, people!
Now, I gotta admit, I’m a little baffled by the whole fake watch thing. Why would you WANT a fake? Is it the thrill of the hunt? Pretending you’re loaded when you’re, well, not? I dunno. I saw something about someone not understanding the appeal either, like, I get it. I’d rather save up for something real, personally. But hey, each to their own.
Apparently, you can find these “fab fakes” (their words, not mine, although kinda catchy, right?) at places like the Bodrum City Market, Turgutreis Market, and Yalikavak Market. Sounds like a treasure hunt, if you’re into that sort of thing. Just be prepared to haggle, I reckon. That’s half the fun, isn’t it? I imagine the prices are all over the place, so do your research beforehand (as if that’s even possible with fakes!).
One thing I’m wondering, though, is the quality. Are we talking “falls apart after a week” fakes, or “convincing enough to fool your mates” fakes? That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? I’d hate to spend my hard-earned lira on something that looks like it came out of a gumball machine. Although maybe that’s part of the charm too? The sheer audacity of it all?
